Description of binding

Codex under shelfmark Cod. Lat. 344, kept by National Széchényi Library, has a blind-tooled brown full leather binding, featuring leather onlays. The binding had been made in Italy in the 15th century. Ornamentation of the left and right boards is identical. Spine cover was made later. The book was originally fastened with four pairs of left-to-right fastening, trefoiled clasps. Faded fragments of its textile ribbons stick out from the leather cover. The parchment quires are sewn all along on four double white leather sewing supports with kettle stitches. The compound endband was sewn with two colors. The gilded edge of the book is decorated with gauffered diamond net and rosettes. The book was restored in 1989 by Enikő Csuzi in the Restoration Laboratory of National Széchényi Library.
